The Old Grain Store

Agent Note re Planning Consent

About the Property

The original and oldest part of the house at the front dates from around 1650 with the east and west wings thought to have been added in the late 1600's. A survey of the farmhouse was carried out in 1986 and is held in Somerset Archives. Interestingly it states various facts regarding the history of the property as a working farm. For example the reception room at the foot of the stairs was once the dairy. The dining room in the Annex was the Parlour and what is currently the kitchen was previously a dairy and used for cheese making until the mid 1900's. The main bedroom, above the kitchen was the cheese room. Today Tarnock Farm has a total of 4.4 acres, although it once had 120 acres in the mid 1800's.

The hamlet of Tarnock was listed in the Domesday book (Tornock) and these days is exceptionally convenient for commuters. This property is easily accessible to Bristol to the north, Wells to the east and the M5 a few miles south. Bristol Airport is also within easy reach. There are excellent state and independent schools locally including Weare First School, Hugh Sexeys Middle School and the Kings of Wessex Upper School in Cheddar. Local Independent schools include Wells Cathedral, Sidcot, Millfield and the Taunton Schools. The countryside around is stunning with lots of lovely walks and places of interest.
